Trump at war with Snoop Dogg on Twitter

United States President Donald Trump has lashed out at Snoop Dogg on Twitter, taking the rapper to task over his new music video, in which he draws a gun on clown dressed as the president and pulls the trigger.

In a tweet that can be presumed to be a response to the video, Trump called for the rapper to be arrested, saying that the public would not have tolerated the scenario had the rapper done the same to former president Barack Obama.

The veteran rapper released a music video on Sunday for his remix of BadBadNotGood's Lavenderfeaturing Kaytranada.

The section of the video causing the uproar shows the artist pointing a gun at a character that resembles the US president. When the trigger is pulled, the gun releases a flag with the word "bang" on it.

Snoop Dogg defended the video, telling Billboard that he was not looking for a reaction with the video, but rather wanting to send a message.

"Any time I drop something, I’m trying to fill in a void. I feel like it’s a lot of people making cool records, having fun, partying, but nobody’s dealing with the real issue with this f***ing clown as President, and the sh*t that we dealing with out here, so I wanted to take time out to push pause on a party record and make one of these records for the time being," the rapper explained.

The president's personal lawyer, Michael Cohen told TMZ that he was 'shocked by the video and called it "totally disgraceful" and said that the rapper owed the president an apology.

"There’s absolutely nothing funny about an assassination attempt on a president, and I’m really shocked at him, because I thought he was better than that," Cohen said.

Florida Senator Mark Rubio pointed referred to the country's history, with a few presidents being assassinated and said "If the wrong person sees that and gets the wrong idea, you could have a real problem. Snoop shouldn't have done that. We've had presidents assassinated before... so anything like that is something people should be really careful about."
