Gunners rubbish Tuchel claims

Arsenal have moved to dispel suggestions of Arsene Wenger's departure following reports Borussia Dortmund manager Thomas Tuchel was poised to take his place.

Having looked set to achieve a top-four finish for the 20th season in a row, at present the Gunners find themselves floundering in sixth position, six points behind fourth-placed Liverpool, following their 3-1 defeat to West Brom at the Hawthorns on Saturday.

This after Wenger's men were dealt a 10-2 hammering at the hands of Bayern Munich a fortnight ago, which saw them crashing out of Europe at the last-16 stage for the sixth season in a row.

The 67-year-old clearly stated that his job was not contingent on a top-four finish following the Baggies encounter:

take a bigger perspective than that - it is not the last result that decides," he told Sky Sports.

"It will not necessarily be linked with that. I've done the top four twenty times, it is not that."

Pressure mounts on the Frenchman from all corners but especially from the fans, who have instigated a number of protests over the past few weeks calling for the 67-year-old's departure. A small group of supporters even raised funds to fly a plane bearing an anti-Wenger banner over the Hawthorns prior to the match at the weekend.

Tuchel himself has played down the rumours telling Bild: "I can't give you any information about the topic. I'm happy with my job in Dortmund and have a contract here to finish."
