Idi Amin's grandson becomes Uganda MP

A grandson of former Ugandan dictator Idi Amin has won a seat in Parliament, representing the Kibanda North constituency.

The Parliamentary seat fell vacant in July following a Court of Appeal ruling that nullified Amin's prior election on the grounds that he had not fully complied with electoral laws.

Amin went on to win the seat unopposed, after his main rival, Sam Amooti Otada, lost a court appeal and withdrew from the race.

The grandson of the former dictator is now a member of parliament for the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), led by President Yoweri Museveni.

Ironically, Museveni was part of a group of Ugandan exiles who, with the support of Tanzanian troops, eventually ousted Idi Amin in 1979.
